March 2011 - SLA is pleased to announce that Katarzyna Dourney, Esq. has joined us as counsel to strengthen our international practice. Ms. Dourney has experience in complex cross-border litigation, with particular emphasis on white collar civil enforcement matters, including investigations in response to government subpoenas. She has assisted clients in responding to investigations by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission involving enforcement actions arising under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) concerning Poland, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Ms. Dourney has also experience in accounting fraud litigation, international trade matters and government contracts. Earlier in her career, Ms. Dourney served as judicial intern for the Honorable Deborah Robinson at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and to the Honorable Marian Blank Horn at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. She holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Catholic University of America, an LL.M. degree in International and Comparative Law from the George Washington University, as well as law degrees from the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland. Ms. Dourney speaks Polish, German and Russian.

April 2011 - The 4th Global Marine Renewable Energy Conference was held in Washington, D.C. from April 27-29. Attendees discussed among other things the growth of research, development and demonstration project in the Marine Hydro Kinetic energy space. May 2011 - The AWEA WINDPOWER 2011 Conference & Exhibition, the world’s largest wind energy event, was held in Anaheim, California. An organized call was made for stable policy to create a predictable business environment for wind energy. This will be the key to continued growth of American wind power, and most pressing remains the need to extend the short-term federal Production Tax Credit (PTC), which expires in 2012.

June 2011 - World Bank Administrative Tribunal: Judgments from the WBAT May session are now published on the Tribunal’s website. See in particular the BP Decision as a successful outcome achieved by SLA in a misconduct case. A decision of reinstatement is among the many noteworthy aspects of the Tribunal’s decision in this case.

July 2011 - SLA assists client in negotiating and securing a contract with the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) for work in renewable energy project development in Latin America. Over the course of 25 years of operations, the IIC has become a reliable partner and effective catalyst for fostering economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
