Veronika Nippe-Johnson, LL.M. joined the firm in 2006 and became a
partner in 2010. As an internationally trained attorney Veronika is the expert
for international labor law and international administrative legal issues at
Schott Law Associates. She has represented staff of international organizations
in a full range of employment and personnel matters, and successfully litigated
many cases before the organization’s dispute resolution bodies. She also
specializes in representing clients that are subject to ethics and/or misconduct
investigations by the ethics offices and investigative units of international
organizations. In addition, she is qualified to handle a wide range of
international and cross-border German-American legal issues, including business
and investment law, general contract law as well as international litigation and
arbitration. Veronika is also familiar with the French legal system and civil
law matters.
Some of her recent activities have been as:
- Counsel to staff of
the international civil service (World Bank Group, IMF, UN organizations) with
regard to a wide range of personnel and employment issues (including performance
reviews, performance improvement plans, HR non-selection decisions,
reassignment, redundancy, decisions by the Pension Plan Administrator and the
Workers’ Compensation Review Panel).
- Counsel to the
World Bank Staff Association handling assessments and appeals before the Appeals
Committee and Administrative Tribunal.

Advisor to World
Bank and IMF staff for allegations of ethics violations and during employment
misconduct investigations by the World Bank’s Department of Institutional
Integrity and the IMF Ethics Office, including drafting Responses to Notices of
Misconduct & Draft Investigative Reports, appealing disciplinary measures based
on findings; drafting extensive written submissions responding to investigative
findings and attending hearings. Cases have included defending clients from
allegations of international fraud and corruption.
- Attorney for
contracts and corporate document reviews for international investors in the U.S.
and abroad, including assessing disputes and due diligence review for
development projects.
Veronika is an
attorney at law admitted in the District of Columbia, New York and Germany. Before
joining SLA she gained substantial experience in Germany and in the U.S. with
private law firms, with the German Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the German
District Court and with German administrative bodies and the German Embassy in
Washington D.C. During that period Veronika was also a legal support lawyer at
Sullivan & Cromwell LLP’s offices in Frankfurt, Germany, where she provided
assistance to partners with issues involving all aspects of German and U.S.
corporate and securities law and capital markets transactions, drafted parts of
IPO prospectuses, and conducted due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
Veronika holds law degrees from the University of Kiel, Germany, Jean Moulin
University of Lyon, France, and she has a Master of Laws in International and
Comparative Law from the George Washington University School of Law, which she
received with Highest Honors. She is a native of northern Germany and speaks
German, English and French.
